Addressing sex and intimacy in post-stroke rehabilitation

Sian McGee is an Occupational Therapist in Auckland, currently working as the practice supervisor for occupational therapy in the community rehabilitation team in Auckland.

 

Sian has recently completed a Masters in Health Science with the University of Auckland, completing research focusing on clinician and client discussions around sex and intimacy as part of rehabilitation post-stroke.

The presentation will provide an outline of a recent study exploring the perspectives of stroke survivors, whanau and clinicians with regards to addressing sex and intimacy after stroke.

Some practical tips for tackling barriers to discussions about sex and intimacy will be provided, along with suggestions to improve MDT communication on the topic.
