Professor Mark Parsons- Post stroke fatigue – what is the mechanism and what can we do about it?

B.Med (University of Newcastle), PhD (University of Melbourne), FRACP (Neurology), FAHMS (Fellow of the Academy of Australian Health and Medicial Scientists).

 Professor Parsons is an internationally recognised Neurologist and leader in Stroke Medicine, and an experienced clinical triallist, having led several international phase II and III clinical trials. He also has a strong track record of research translation into clinical practice change. He moved to Sydney in 2020 as SHARP Professor of Medicine and Neurology at UNSW South Western Sydney Clinical School, Liverpool Hospital and The Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research. There, he has established and leads a new Stroke and Neuroscience research team – the Sydney Brain Centre @ The Ingham Institute. He remains as a Professor of Neurology, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, University of Melbourne. He is also a Conjoint Professor of Neurology at University of Newcastle. He also is a Visiting Professor at Fudan University, Shanghai.

Dr Dawn Simpson- Fatigue after Stroke - Towards major breakthroughs: The 3rd Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtable

Dawn is a Physiotherapist and early-career researcher with the University of Newcastle. Dawn’s post-doctoral research focuses on post-stroke fatigue, and she was awarded a 2023 Stroke Foundation Seed Grant that will facilitate the co-design and testing a novel psychoeducational tool for post-stroke fatigue. She is the ECR for the 3rd Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtable Fatigue Task Force and had a fabulous time in Vienna last December at the in-person Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtable meeting. Dawn is also interested in factors that influence sedentary behaviour and physical activity for stroke survivors, and health service models that could support improved rehabilitation and recovery outcomes for survivors of stroke.
