Much has happened since the publication of the last New Zealand stroke guideline in 2003, “Life after stroke‟ (Baskett & McNaughton, 2003) and after seven years, revision of the guideline is considered overdue.

The Clinical Guidelines for Stroke Management have evolved into living guidelines, updated as new evidence emerges in accordance with the 2011 NHMRC Standard for clinical practice guidelines.

The four Regional Acute Stroke Destination Policies were updated in 2020.
