Acute Stroke

Stroke Units

Organised Acute Stroke Services are provided by a coordinated specialised interdisciplinary team (IDT) and consist of early and ongoing comprehensive assessments and treatment which is guided by best practice.  The NSN have developed a set of acute service specifications for New Zealand DHBs to follow when designing their stroke services.

Indicator for Stroke Units

All New Zealand DHBs are required to report to the Ministry of Health on an a quarterly indicator measuring 'the percentage of stroke patients admitted to a stroke unit or an organised stroke service with a demonstrated stroke pathway - target 80 percent'.

Thrombolysis

New Zealand Thrombolysis Guideline - This guideline was developed by clinicians on the NSN Thrombolysis Working Group in 2013.

Indicator for Thrombolysis Rate

All New Zealand DHBs are required to report to the Ministry of Health on a quarterly regional indicator that measures a target of '6' percent of potentially eligible stroke patients thrombolysed.
